Botox® and Dermal Fillers have been around for years and almost everybody has heard of them. They give great and consistent results to help you look younger and more vibrant, giving you the confidence you deserve. Both modalities help reduce wrinkles, improving your appearance, but in very different ways.

Here at the MFM Laser Center our physician provides these cosmetic services that so many people receive. We are based in Newnan, GA and provide services for patients from much of Metro Atlanta including our neighbors from Peachtree City, Fayetteville, LaGrange, and others.

When choosing a provider, search for a clinician skilled in procedures (and certified to provide them) and one who has been trained in dermatology, surgery, neurology, and the complex facial anatomy. A board certified physician, like Dr. Miles, fits all these criteria.

How does Botox® work?

Botox® (a brand of botulinum toxin) is a protein first isolated from the bacteria that causes botulism, a horrible disease caused usually by ingesting improperly stored food. Some brilliant scientists discovered a safe way to produce the protein and dilute it in such a fashion where it could be used for specific purposes in the body. In this case we use the paralytic effects of Botox® to quiet the contractions of the muscles that lead to wrinkling. Thus we inject a small and controlled amount, measured in units, within the key muscles of the face that are responsible for wrinkling.

The most common muscles treated are the muscles around the eyes and forehead since these muscles lead to frown lines and crow's feet. But other areas around the nose, mouth and even the neck can also be treated.

The Botox® lasts in the muscles for quite a long time and the cosmetic effects of treatment can last 3 to 6 months. Maintenance treatments help maintain the look you are going for and can prevent the contractions that could lead to further wrinkles.

Botox® Results!

Our very own patient here was concerned about her Crow's Feet lines she got mainly with smiling. In the top photo she was smiling very big with some squinting of her eyes to show the lines optimally. Two weeks after a 15 unit injection of Botox® to each side her Crow's Feet had disappeared. In fact she was trying so hard to wrinkle the corners of her eyes she was starting to create Bunny Lines on her nose! Some people do get Bunny Lines when they smile and Botox® works for those, too. This patient only got the Bunny Lines when intentionally forcing the muscles together very tightly and does NOT need additional Botox®.

How do dermal fillers work?

As the face ages, we lose collagen and other support structures of the skin. These changes lead to volume loss of the face which accounts for part of the visible aging effects. Loss of volume can lead to exaggerated wrinkles is some areas and a sunken or hollow effect in others.

Dermal filers, like Juvederm®, are injected into the skin in key areas to help replace the volume lost, leaving a fuller and more youthful appearing face.  The fillers used are based on hyaluronic acid, a natural substance present within your skin that helps the skin retain moisture and softness while providing volume. Dermal fillers can be used in many areas of the face including the lips.

Your body slowly dissolves the dermal filler over time and the effects from each injection can last anywhere from several months up to 1-2 years depending on which filler is used and if other additions like are used along with the filler.

How much does Botox® cost?
How much do dermal fillers cost?

The cost of each of these is based on how much you need since the Botox® and the filler compose a large percentage of the cost to us.

We offer the very good rate of $10 per unit for Botox® brand botulinum. Some patients might need as few as 20 units, where other patients might want to be more aggressive and use 80 units or more.

The dermal filler we use is Juvederm® and cost is based on the number of pre-filled syringes used. For each syringe the cost is $499. Most of our patients use 1 syringe but if you are doing many areas of the face, you may require more. You get a 10% discount on any additional syringe during that visit.
