PDO Thread Lift

PDO Thread Lift

What is a PDO Thread Lift?

A PDO Thread Lift is a procedural technique used to lift up the skin of the face, neck or other body parts making it more youthful appearing.

PDO, or polydioxanone, is a suture material that has been used for decades by surgeons. For a thread lift, this suture material is placed just under the skin in a way that holds the skin in place to help your body fight against the natural gravitational pull and sag seen with aging.  The PDO thread has special barbs that help hold onto certain layers of the skin to keep it in place.

A small amount of anesthetic is injected under the skin to make the process comfortable. After the procedure is finished the entire thread is beneath the skin and cannot be seen or felt. Slowly your body breaks down the thread leaving a beautifully constructed natural layer of collagen behind. This natural matrix of collagen that your body synthesizes helps to keep your skin more youthful and beautiful.

How long do the PDO threads last?

PDO threads themselves last about 6 months before your body has broken them down into simple water and carbon dioxide. What remains is a a nice strand of collagen for each thread. Because of this collagen boost many people will see the results last 10-12 months. Repeating the procedure further helps stimulate more collagen. You can never have enough collagen. Aging and other insults to the skin, like UV radiation from the sun, continually try to break down your collagen. Having back to back PDO thread lift procedures every 6-12 months maximizes your collagen and its effects on the skin function and aesthetics.

We use threads with molded barbs that last longer than the traditional sutures with cut barbs. Stable threads with longer lasting barbs give your body the best chance at producing long lasting collagen.

Who can get a PDO Thread Lift?

The optimal candidate is a person in the 30 to 60 year old age group who wants to tighten or lift certain areas of skin but who isn't ready for a facelift surgery. Most people like to target the nasolabial folds that go on either side of the nose to the sides of the mouth, and the marionette lines that go from the corners of the mouth down to the side of the chin. But many other areas can be targeted including the cheeks, brow, jowls, neck and underneath the chin. People older than 60 can be treated but typically don't see results as good as those younger. Frequently, more senior adults and those seeking more dramatic results would benefit more from a surgical facelift.

Smooth PDO Threads for Volume

Thread lift sutures have barbs to grasp deep layers of skin. Smooth PDO threads do not have barbs and are strategically placed more superficially within the skin to generate collagen and build volume.

Typical targets are areas around the mouth and over the cheeks where volume has been lost with age. Smooth PDO threads are frequently placed within lines and wrinkles to diminish their negative appearance and volumize the skin.
